The scientific method A scientific method is a way to ask questions and answering them by making observations and doing experiments. The steps of the scientific method are: Ask a question, do background research, construct a hypothesis, test the hypothesis by doing an experiment, analyze your data and draw a conclusion, communicate your results. When looking at these steps the explanation of them are rather simple. To ask a question means to open the floor for discussion to gain an answer. Once he or she gains the Intel, he or she will perform a background research to be sure that the information is credible. From here, one will construct a hypothesis as to why things are the way they are. This will lead to predictions that can be tested in multiple ways. Then one will test the hypotheses by doing a experiment. The Collective Identity Of The American Colonies - 1782 Words

The Declaration of Independence is one of the cornerstone documents of America. The Declaration’s legacy, both within the United States of America and beyond its borders has easily become recognizable as the first political manifesto of a collective body successfully opposing British rule. The unifying document, laced with imagery of one people has become memorialized as a recognition of society united under a new government declaring themselves as the rightful rulers to their own sovereignty. But how did this collective identity come to be? This essay hopes to explore how the collective identity of the American colonies exemplified in the Declaration as â€Å"we† came to fruition. As I will explore, the notion of we came out of years of†¦show more content†¦Nevertheless, the legislature stayed in place causing tension between the colonists and the British government. Additionally, as Gordon S. Wood argues, by the eighteenth century the colonists had begun a cultural enlightenment. More enlightened than that of their Western counterparts, American colonists were quick to call out the despotism of European monarchs as they reflected upon their own legal rights, especially when looking towards the legal restrictions placed upon them. Still spatially separated, the colonists began to envision themselves as uniquely separate from the British. Keenly aware of their surroundings, colonists demanded civility and representation which had not been supported by the British, exemplified through the burdensome trading legislature. By the mid eighteenth century the differences in cultures became unavoidable as colonial and crown interests strayed from one another. British interests still resided in economic ventures whereas colonialists wanted enlightened representation causing them to feel as if they were different from the British. Separately, each colony began to feel the pangs of alienation but it must be noted the colonies themselves were not politically unified because they had no reason to do so. This would change during the 1760s as colonies began to unite against Great Britain during the American Rebellion as colonists felt their rightsShow MoreRelatedThe American Revolution : A Significant Part Of American History1399 Words   |  6 Pages The American Revolution is a very significant part of American History. Multi-generational plan Free Essays

It is widely known that the clash between the baby boomers and the generation Xers goes way back especially in the work place. As a result certain jobs could get compromised because of these clashing attitudes. It was well known though that both these generations could actually present ideas that could help the business running. We will write a custom essay sample on Multi-generational plan or any similar topic only for you Order Now The main problem about these two generations is the fact that they seldom go along with each other. But who are the baby boomers and the generation Xers? The baby boomers were widely known to be the people born between 1946 to 1964 while the generation Xers were people born between 1965 to 1980. Baby boomers were known to have plenty of opinions when it comes to political issues and they usually believe in longer time for work while the generation Xers witnessed or lived the technological boom of the world and are more skeptic than any other generations (â€Å"Workplace generation gap: Understand differences among colleagues,†). The long term goal then is on how these two generations could come together for the benefit of the company or business. The main key to make these generations come together is to eliminate the tension between the two by helping each other understand the usual personality or outlook that each generation has. There could be a program that would lead to the understanding of the two generations. Although, those organizing these programs should be on alert on what they ought to do especially when this kind of program could easily lead to prejudice. A good suggestion of this program is to put the two generations in each others shoes. A group dynamic could be done and these activities/projects should reflect a certain aspect where both generations could be useful. Then the next step here is to render respect for each of the generations. The respect should come out genuine. If respect were done for the sake of respect then these people might not have really understood the plight of each generation. Revenge Essay Example For Students

Revenge Essay Revenge causes one to act blindly through anger, rather than through reason. It is based on the principle of an eye for an eye, but this principle is not always an intelligent theory to live by. Young Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet were all looking to avenge the deaths of their fathers. They all acted on emotion, and this led to the downfall of two, andthe rise to power of one. Since the heads of the three major families were each murdered, the eldest sons of these families swore vengeance, and two of the three sons died while exacting their acts of vengeance, revenge is a major theme in the tragedy of Hamlet. There were three major families in the tragedy of Hamlet. These were the family of King Fortinbras, the family of Polonius, and the family of King Hamlet. The heads of each of these families are all slaughtered within the play. Fortinbras, King of Norway, was killed by King Hamlet; slain by sword during a man-to-man battle. This entitled King Hamlet to the land that was posses sed by Fortinbras because it was written in a sealed compact. Polonius was an advisor to the King, and father to Laertes and Ophelia. He was nosy and arrogant, and he did not trust his children. Young Hamlet killed him while he was eves dropping on a conversation between Hamlet and his mother. King Hamlet was the King of Denmark, and Hamlets father. He had killed King Fortinbras, only to be killed by his brother, Claudius. Every one of the three eldest sons had one thing in common, they all wanted revenge for a slaughtered father. In the time in which this play is set, avenging the murder of a father was part of ones honor, and had to be done. All of the three sons swore vengeance, and then acted towards getting revenge for the deaths of their fathers. Young Fortinbras was deeply enraged by the death of his father, and he wanted revenge against Denmark because of this occurrence. Fortinbras wanted to, by force, regain the lands that had been lost by his father to Denmark. Claudius s ends messengers to talk to Fortinbras uncle, the new King of Norway. He forbade Fortinbras to attack Denmark, and instead convinced him to attack the Poles to vent his anger. Laertes found out about his fathers death, and immediately returned home. He confronted the King and accused him of the murder of his father. Claudius told Laertes that Hamlet was responsible for his fathers death. He then decides to kill Hamlet to avenge the death of his father. He and Claudius concoct a plot to kill Hamlet. Hamlet dies of wounds from the poisoned tipped sword Laertes used. Young Hamlet was deeply sorrowed by his fathers death. His deep depression, the hopeless note in his attitude towards the world and towards the value of life (Jones 1160). He spoke to a ghost, and this ghost stated that his fathers death was a murder, by the hand of his uncle, Claudius. Hamlet was astonished, and then swore vengeance for his fathers death. He then proceeded to try and prove his uncles guilt, and then finall y kills him while he himself is dying of poisoned wounds inflicted by Laertes during their duel. The point envenomed too! Then venom, to thy work Here, thou incestuous, murderous, damned Dane, drink off this potion. Is thy union here? Follow my mother.(Ham.5.2.299-303). This left the King dead, and his fathers death avenged. The lack of thought used in exacting the revenge led to the deaths of both Laertes and Hamlet. Laertes planned with Claudius to kill Hamlet with the poisoned tipped sword, but neither Claudius nor Larertes had thought that the sword might be used against them. With Laertes believing the Kings accusations that Hamlet had murdered his father, he was in a blind rage, and would not listen to Hamlets explanation and apology. He fought Hamlet and wounded him once with the poisoned tipped sword; but, unfortunately, their swords are switched, and Hamlet wounded Laertes with the sword. That is the wound by which Laertes dies. Hamlet had many chances to kill his uncle, bu t his rage outweighed his intelligence and he chose to wait until the God could see no good in Claudius, and then strike him down into a world of eternal damnation. Hamlet waits until he can kill his uncle while he is performing a sin, unfortunately for Hamlet the sin is the poisoning of his own nephew. Hamlet dies of his poisoned wound. Young Fortinbras regains his fathers land, without use of violence, or death to himself. Hamlet names him new ruler of Denmark before he dies, and Fortinbras regains all of his fathers lost land, and becomes King of Denmark. As a theme, revenge was present in all parts of the play. It seems ironic that Claudius, Laertes, and Hamlet all died of the same sword. It is also ironic that the first to seek revenge against Claudius, Fortinbras, becomes King of Denmark. Revenge was the driving force behind three of the main characters of the play, for two it led to downfall, and for the other it led to greatness. .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 , .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .postImageUrl , .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 , .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:hover , .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:visited , .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:active { border:0!important; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:active , .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5 .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u640d674185a380033c13ba7b7135d1d5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Myth of Consumerism Essay We will write a custom essay on Revenge specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now BibliographyWorks CitedJones, Ernest. Question: Write an essay about the Project Management. Answer: Introduction Conflict management is the procedure to lower down the negative features of conflict at the same time raising the positive features of conflict. The motive of this process is to increase group results which include efficiency in both organizational and personal environment. There are various techniques to resolve conflict like Forcing, Collaborating, Compromising and Smoothing. Badly managed or without properly managed conflict could hamper trust and lower down effectiveness. When one understands the importance of individual needs and is ready to analyze them in a congenial environment, it then helps in team building and effective relations. Whenever a conflict is solved rapidly trust factor increases.A good conflict resolution is dependent on the capacity of a person to manage his stress by being attentive and peaceful. If a person cannot control himself, then he may become overwhelmed in difficult circumstances. One has the find the things that are comforting for them in order to r elieve stress by way of any of the five senses. Conflicts can become very demanding and tough therefore it is good to see if the matter really deserves the time and energy. There are various strategies, techniques, skills and tips in order to resolve conflict in a congenial way. Literature Review According to research, conflict related circumstances are bound to arise and also an essential feature in workstations. A conflict arises when the aspirations and targets of both the parties gets in the way of each other. It is a natural phenomenon as different parties have different set of concerns. It can arise between team members, separate department, superiors and colleagues. As per research conflict is not a negative connotation rather it brings opportunities for enhancement and development. Hence it is essential to study and make use of the conflict resolution techniques(Bolton, 2016). The first technique that is discussed is forcing in such a situation the individual rigidly follows his own issues rather than paying heed to the confrontation posed by the other person. This can result in putting across ones thinking forward at the cost of the other person.Forcing can be suitable in many situations like: - In cases when other powerful methods are fruitless When there is a requirement of standing up for oneself and resist hostility In case of situation when there has to be a quick action taken To solve long term conflicts. It is a very advantageous technique as it provides a speedy solution to a long term conflict; it would also increase the self esteem of the individual if the resistance was as a result of hostility. But as per the author there are certain cautionsto be taken care of while using forcing: It can have a negative impact on the relationship with the other person. It can make the other party respond in the same way, even if initially he would not have done it. This technique would require lots of energy. Some caveat offorcing as discussed are that it may negatively affect your relationship with the opponent in the long run(department, 2016). It may cause the opponent to react in the same way, even if the opponent did not intend to be forceful originally. Also one cannot take advantage of the strong sides of the other sides position. Further taking this approach may require a lot of energy and be exhausting to some individuals. Another technique that is discussed is Win-Win (Collaborating). This technique is known as a problem solving technique. It means to look for an all win solution for both the parties. This approach identifies the opportunity and finds ways to address each other concerns.Itcan be suitable in the following situations When the agreement and harmony with the other party is important to consider. When it is important to look for the wellbeing of several stakeholders. When there is trust and essential to have a long term relationship and also when the responsibility of the work has to be shared. Its advantage is that it helps to solve the real problem, leads to win win situation and trust and respect remains intact. Thecaveat is that it needs commitment more time and effort, and it may not be handy when there is paucity of time. Another technique is compromising; this technique is a mutually agreeable solution which to some extent is agreed by both the stakeholders. It can be used when the targets are not of much importance and trust factor is not yet developed. It helps for quick resolution and lowers down the stress levels, but it can result in lose-lose situations and may decrease the trust factor in the long run. Another technique as discussed is withdrawing, it is also avoiding when the person does not pay heed to either ones or other issues and keeps withdrawing. It can be important in case situations are not important and when one is unprepared and one has to deal with hostility. Its advantage is that it is a low stress approach, but it can lead to negatively affect th e relationship with the other party. Next is Smoothing is accommodating the worry of others first and then own concerns, it can be used in temporary situations and when the concern is not important for you it would help in analyzing the issue from a different perspective but the risk is that the other party can take advantage and it may hamper ones confidence level (Froyd, 2007). According to Eric Dontigney there are various conflict management strategies which can be applied. In a particular circumstance when two parties are involved, a chance of conflict is likely. The reason of conflict could be because of philosophical differences or differentpurpose to influencedisproportion. Badly managed or without properly managed conflict could hamper trust and lower down effectiveness. The author has discussed five conflict management strategies in order to resolve a conflict(Dontigney, 2015). In relationships conflict is bound to occur, but if it is managed in a positive manner, then it offers a chance of advancement which eventually strengthens the relationship between two individuals. Conflict takes place when there is disagreement over the viewpoints and perspectives of people. At times these differences look small but it can generate hard and ill feelings towards each other. In personal matters misunderstanding of different individual requirements can consequen tly give rise to distances and breakups. At workplace divergent requirements are the reason of conflict. When one understands the importance of individual needs and is ready to analyze them in a congenial environment, it then helps in team building and effective relations. Whenever a conflict is solved rapidly trust factor increases. A good conflict resolution is dependent on the capacity of a person to manage his stress by being attentive and peaceful. By remaining peaceful one can exactly understand verbal andnonverbal communication. Controlling thebehavior is another technique. When one can manage his emotions well he can communicate about his requirements without forcing others. It is important to be attentive about the feelings and the verbal communication. One should respect the differences. If one avoids being hasty and disrespectful the conflict can be resolved at a faster pace and it would build trust and foster healthy relationships The person responds in an unhealthy manne r when he does not respond to the urgent issues that are essential for the other party. When one undertakes hurtful and bitter reactions there will be lesser love and person would be lonely. A person responds in a healthy manner when he understands and responds to essential issues. The person quickly forgives and is ready to compromise. There are four skills that help to resolve conflicts quickly and build hope and assurance. The ability to be calm and attentive in stressful situations is an essential feature to resolve conflicts. If a person cannot control himself, then he may become overwhelmed in difficult circumstances. One has the find the things that are comforting for them in order to relieve stress by way of any of the five senses, i.e. sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. Being familiar and identifying ones emotions: being emotionally aware is the key. If the person himself cannot comprehend how and why he feels in a particular way, then he will not be able to put across his views effectively. As many individuals ignore feelings of being sad and angry, but the capacity to manage conflict is dependent on being associated with the emotions. Improving non-verbal communication skills: Very essential information delivered in conflicts is through the gestures like eye contact, facial expression etc. in the midst of a problem one should be watchful of the non verbal body language which will help in better understanding the main problem and will help in building trust. A relaxed tone, a gentle touch can help in resolving a strong argument. Usage of wittiness to tackle confrontations: one can solve disputes and solve conflicts by dealing in a very witty and courteous manner. Laughter can deliver things which are not easy to articulate. Though it is essential to laugh along with the other party and not mock at them. In times when humor is used lower down anxiety and tension and reanalyze the problems the dispute can be converted into a chance of building better association and closeness. According to research there are certain tips to manage andresolvingconflict to control a conflict requires control over emotions. One has to give importance to the relationship and keep it at the forefront. It is essential to take steps to strengthen the relationship rather than strengthen the argument. Conflict can be avoided by being considerate with the other person and his perspective. One should pay attention to the present if we are clinging to old hurt, then the capacity to see the present situation will weaken. Instead of going back in the past and picking up faults, it is important to see what can be done now in the present (Segal, 2009). Conflicts can become very demanding and tough therefore it is good to see if the matter really deserves the time and energy. In order to put an end to a conflict it is very important to be willing to forgive. The solution to ending a conflict is stopping the motivation to punish the other party which cannot pay for our damages but would onl y further take way our energy. One has to decide when to let go, agree or disagree with an argument. If a conflict is not worth the time one should learn to disengage and move away. The ability to be calm and attentive in stressful situations is an essential feature to resolve conflicts. Conflict management model The conflict management model illustrates that how can we handle different conflict in organizations. There are various options for conflict which are: (Meier, 2011) Competing The competing option is at the extreme left of self-assured with less cooperative attitude to resolve the conflict. It means standing for your rights with the approach to be aggressive and standing for your rights Accommodating This stands at extreme right, which means resolving conflict through less assertive approach and being more cooperative. Here, the person resolves the conflict with generosity and selfless nature. This means to take decision taking care of another persons needs. Avoiding This means to totally avoid the conflict and the deal. This approach is neither being assertive nor neither cooperative. This option might lead to diplomatic issues or withdrawing the issue. Compromising This is at the center of the graph which means that the issue is resolved with consent of both the parties. The needs of both parties are taken care in this option. An alternative is being chosen which is best for both the parties. Collaborating This option is opposite of avoiding where both the parties mutually agree to respect each others needs and willing to come to a solution with mutual respect, they listen to each other and work out for creative solutions. Thus we can understand that collaborating is the best option available in Conflict Management. Various situations which can arise in conflicts and debates are: Win-Win situation This is the most acceptable situation where each individual is benefited and both the parties are at a win-win situation. The people involved in discussions win, thus this is collaborating option. Eg: A wanted to purchase a mobile but he was not satisfied with the price as it was affordable for him, he asked the shopkeeper to lower the price. Initially, he refused to do it, but after mutual discussion with long discussion and persuasion, the shopkeeper lowered the price which he could do. Now, both the parties were at win-win situation where A could now buy mobile at affordable price and the shopkeeper can sell the product after making his profit and also made a customer with loyalty. There is no need to go for conflicts in such small issues, hence situation can be handled through negotiation (Experts, 2016). Win-Lose Situation In this situation, one party wins and the other party is at losing or dissatisfied. In this model, even after several discussions, one party will remain benefitted and the other party will remain at a loss. Lose-Lose Situation In this situation, both the parties are at a loss and neither is benefitted. Eg: In the same above case, if A had not purchased the mobile even after discussions and negotiation, the both the parties were dissatisfied at hence at a loss (Kilmann, 2016). An example from corporate world: An Executive Director and Finance Manager are discussing to finalize a donation letter. The right output and goal of this letter is to convey right message to the donars which will be beneficial for the entire organization. Now, the finance manager and ED have to maintain a dynamic and pleasant relationship for long-lasting and reliable working relationship. Both parties are individuals with their specific expertise. Both have to maintain a collaborating relationship with creative alternatives before signing-off the letter. Both parties needs have to fulfill and neither of the parties should be ignored. RADPAC Approach Details of Radpac are: R Rapport, A Analysis, D-Debate, P=Propose, A Agreement, C- Close Rapport This point indicates that both the parties should be comfortable and should share a good rapport with each other. Eg. In corporate, a new joinee and HR Manager should be comfortable with each other to start the negotiation or any discussion; they must break the ice and start the conversation with a greeting and a smile. Analysis In this point, both the parties should understand each others needs. The customer should understand that shopkeeper is here to earn while shopkeeper should understand that customer needs product at an affordable price. In the same way, an employee should understand that he is here to grab the opportunity and HR Manager to select good employee, so they should understand each others needs (The President and Fellows of Harvard College, 2009). Debate This is round of discussion and debates which are done to convince each other. Both pros and cons are evaluated and people debate to convince each other. One must not lose his temper while debating. Both employee and HR Manager had series of debate to try to get want they want. Propose Both the party gives their best possible idea and solution for the situation. Like, HR Manager proposed best possible salary and Employee will debate to get best maximum salary. Agreement Both the parties come to a conclusion and agree for the best possible outcome. Both employee and HR Manager will come to an agreement where each will compromise to their best possible extent. Close The discussion and negotiation are closed and both are satisfied. Like both Employee and HR manager are satisfied and the offer letter is generated and the employee will join (Thomason, 2008). Key Features of this Model with respect to my personal views are: - This model is acceptable in all situations and at the workplace. We can manage conflict and resolve conflicts ourselves with collaborating method. RADPAC approach will be highly useful in this Whenever we are entering into a conflict, we can refer to this model. Our decent and well-thought approach can help to resolve our conflict amicably. When I personally enter into conflict, my eyes become red and my head starts burning. My forehead starts to seat with little headache. Any individual can analyze our model i.e., if they are dominating and aggressive, they are resolving the situation with the help of competing. If the individual is calm, peaceful and stress free he is resolving the situation with collaborating way. Conclusion Conflict related circumstances are bound to arise and also an essential feature in workstations. A conflict arises when the aspirations and targets of both the parties gets in the way of each other. Being familiar and identifying ones emotions is the key. If the person himself cannot comprehend how and why he feels in a particular way, then he will not be able to put across his views effectively. One has to give importance to the relationship and keep it at the forefront. It is essential to take steps to strengthen the relationship rather than strengthen the argument. Conflict can be avoided by being considerate to the other person and his perspective. Thus, in end it can be concluded that various conflict management strategies and RADPAC approach can be applied to have a win-win situation. References Bolton, R., 2016. Question 4 There Are Many Techniques Which Have Been Developed To Inc

Question 4: There are many techniques which have been developed to increase the efficiency of memory . Select 3 techniques , discuss them in detail and present examples of when they can be used. In the world today it is a must to be able to remember things. Memory is a big part in everyone's life. Their is hardly a day that goes by when you do not have to remember something. If someone doesn't have a great memory it could cause somewhat of a down fall in their professional life. In this paper I will discuss three different memorization habits and how they can be contributed to one's everyday lifestyle. One of many ways that help people memorize things is in a verbal sense called Rhymes. Rhyming is an easy way for someone to memorize certain things. This method is most common with children in school. Many people that grow up still remember these little detailed Rhymes that help them get threw school. Rhymes are nothing other than little saying's which sometimes make no sense , but when repeated in your mind it helps your recall what is need to know . The Rhyme that I remember best was used in math class " I ate and ate until I was sick on the floor eight times eight equals sixty-four ?' that saying is really kind of ridiculous , but I always new what eight times eight was . There are so many saying's out there and everyone of them will help anyone memorize. Rhymes have been and always will have a big impact on helping people in memorization. Another strategy to help on to memorize things is called Acrostics. Acrostics is nothing more than a saying in which the first letter of each word of the saying is the cue to help recall information you need to know . This method is very similar to the method of Rhyming , but you only use the one letter from each word to represent the cue for your needed information. One of the Acrostic phrases that many people were taught for learning notes in music class was ?' Every good boy does fine ?' . This saying helps people remember notes E, G, B, D, and F , which are five main chords, in order , used in music. Acrostic is not used as much as Rhyme; however, though they are very similar in style. Many people use this method , but really have no idea what it is called nor really care as long as it works , and it does . All people tend to do things the easy way , and their is nothing wrong with that as long as it works . There are certain methods for everything and it always helps to have some help when needed. The third method that will be discussed is the method of Loci. The method of Loci involves taking an imaginary walk along a familiar path where images of items to be remembered are associated with certain locations . The first step is to commit to memory a series of loci, or places along a path. Usually these loci are specific locations in your home or neighborhood. Then envision each thing you want to remember in one of these locations. Try to form vivid images . When you need to remember the things , imagine yourself on your path , which should serve as cues for the retrieval of the images you have formed ( Wayne Weiten, 2000 ). The usefulness of Loci helps assure yourself of remembering items in a certain order and the order is determined by the location sequence along the certain path. In this paper I have discussed and gave examples for three different ways to improve one's memory. There are many other methods in to help with memorization ;however , I believe these are the three most common used help methods. Each method has it's own direct way in helping one to memorize something for long periods of time. Memorizing is a everyday thing that is nearly necessary for everyday life. People have methods for doing everything and just because you do something one way doesn't make that the only right way.

Common Animal Questions and Answers

Common Animal Questions and Answers The animal kingdom is fascinating and often inspires a number of questions from both the young and old. Why do zebras have stripes? How do bats locate prey? Why do some animals glow in the dark? Find answers to these and other intriguing questions about animals. Why Do Some Tigers Have White Coats? Researchers from Chinas Peking University have discovered that white tigers owe their unique coloration to a gene mutation in the pigment gene SLC45A2. This gene inhibits the production of red and yellow pigments in white tigers but does not appear to alter black. Like orange Bengal tigers, white tigers have distinctive black stripes. The SLC45A2 gene has also been associated with light coloration in modern Europeans and in animals such as fish, horses, and chickens. The researchers advocate for the possible reintroduction of white tigers into the wild. Current white tiger populations only exist in captivity as wild populations were hunted out in the 1950s. Do Reindeer Really Have Red Noses? A study published in the BMJ-British Medical Journal reveals why reindeer have red noses. Their noses are abundantly supplied with red blood cells through the nasal microcirculation. Microcirculation is the flow of blood through tiny blood vessels. Reindeer noses have a high density of blood vessels that supply a high concentration of red blood cells to the area. This helps to increase oxygen to the nose and to control inflammation and regulate temperature. The researchers used infrared thermal imaging to visualize the reindeers red nose. Why Do Some Animals Glow In the Dark? Some animals can emit light naturally due to a chemical reaction in their cells. These animals are called bioluminescent organisms. Some animals glow in the dark to attract mates, to communicate with other organisms of the same species, to lure prey, or to expose and distract predators. Bioluminescence occurs in invertebrates such as insects, insect larvae, worms, spiders, jellyfish, dragonfish, and squid. How Do Bats Use Sound to Locate Prey? Bats use echolocation and a process called active listening to locate prey, typically insects. This is particularly helpful in clustered environments where sound can bounce off of trees and leaves making it more difficult to locate prey. In active listening, bats adjust their vocal cries emitting sounds of variable pitch, length, and repetition rate. They can then determine details about their environment from the returning sounds. An echo with a sliding pitch indicates a moving object. Intensity flickers indicate a fluttering wing. Time delays between cry and echo indicate distance. Once its prey has been identified, the bat emits cries of increasing frequency and decreasing duration to pinpoint its preys location. Finally, the bat emits what is known as the final buzz (rapid succession of cries) before capturing its prey. Why Do Some Animals Play Dead? Playing dead is an adaptive behavior used by a number of animals including mammals, insects, and reptiles.  This behavior, also called thanatosis, is most often employed as a defense against predators, a means to catch prey, and as a way of avoiding sexual cannibalism during the mating process. Are Sharks Color Blind? Studies on shark vision suggest that these animals may be completely color blind. Using a technique called microspectrophotometry, researchers were able to identify cone visual pigments in shark retinas. Of the 17 shark species studied, all had rod cells but only seven had cone cells. Of the shark species that had cone cells, only a single cone type was observed. Rod and cone cells are the two main types of light sensitive cells in the retina. While rod cells can not distinguish colors, cone cells are capable of color perception. However, only eyes with different spectral types of cone cells can distinguish different colors. Since sharks appear to have only a single cone type, it is believed that they are totally color blind. Marine mammals such as whales and dolphins also have only a single cone type. Why Do Zebras Have Stripes? Researchers have developed an interesting theory as to why zebras have stripes. As reported in the Journal of Experimental Biology, zebras stripes help to ward off biting insects such as horseflies. Also known as tabanids, horseflies use horizontally polarized light to direct them toward the water for laying eggs and to locate animals. The researchers state that horseflies are more attracted to horses with dark hides than those with white hides. They concluded that the development of white stripes prior to birth helps to make zebras less attractive to biting insects. The study indicated that the polarization patterns of reflected light from zebra hides were consistent with stripe patterns that were least attractive to horseflies in tests. Can Female Snakes Reproduce Without Males? Some snakes are capable of reproducing asexually by a process called parthenogenesis. This phenomenon has been obeserved in boa constrictors as well as in other animals including some species of shark, fish, and amphibians. In parthenogenesis, an unfertilized egg develops into a distinct individual. These babies are genetically identical to their mothers. Why Dont Octopuses Get Tangled in Their Tentacles? Hebrew University of Jerusalem researchers have made an interesting discovery that helps answer the question of why an octopus doesnt get tangled up in its tentacles. Unlike in the human brain,  the octopus brain does not map out the coordinates of its appendages. As a result, octopuses dont know where their arms are exactly. To prevent the octopuss arms from grabbing the octopus, its suckers will not attach to the octopus itself. The researchers state that an octopus produces a chemical in its skin that temporarily prevents the suckers from grabbing. It was also discovered that an octopus can override this mechanism when necessary as evidenced by its ability to grab an amputated octopus arm. Sources: Cell Press.
